Samantha Thorne Interview!

It’s the final Monday in April – boy, the month went fast! – so we have another Monday Morning Author Interview for you. Today we’re headed across the pond to the UK to talk with Samantha Thorne, a new author who looks to be making a splash!

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I didn’t, it just kind of happened as I kept a diary about my experiences!

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

My book is short, funny, light hearted. Can be easily picked up and read without getting too deep.

How do books get published?

I used IngramSpark, learning as I go along.

When did you write your first book and how old were you?

I wrote my first book a few years ago around the age of 39. I’ve just done another Illustrated one for children.

What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

I’m a beautician and graphic designer, both of which have struggled in the pandemic. Ive had to get creative and think of other ways to keep busy.

What does your family think of your writing?

I was embarrassed at first to show my boyfriend as its about my dating history. But he laughed all the way through it and found it all very amusing.

What are common traps for aspiring writers?

Lack of confidence to just go for it and give it a try. It’s all overwhelming when you don’t really know what your doing and how the process works. Ive had to learn a lot along the way.

Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?

My books are individual and for different ages, but equally I like to think the same humour is in both of them, and hope adults enjoy reading the childrens one to their little ones.

As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?

I think I’d like to be Barney by little bulldog. He has a good life.

What was the best money you ever spent as a writer?

Hiring an editor really helped. A professional eye really made it feel more professional and picked up a lot of errors.

Thank you so much for dropping by!

Thank you! I’ve included links for my UK friends to order my books – sorry, I don’t have them in the US yet, but someday maybe!

Well, wouldn’t you know it, I went and found some US links! Guess what? You’re an international author now!
